The Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) department and the Shipyard Project Manager. This position involves a variety of clerical and administrative tasks aimed at ensuring safety compliance and operational efficiency.
Key ResponsibilitiesDaily Operations:
- Conduct routine inspections of the shipyard and vessels involved in projects.
- Perform atmospheric testing in tanks and maintain accurate records for compliance and approvals.
- Engage in daily safety meetings to promote a culture of safety.
- Assist in the organization and storage of Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and permits for daily shipyard operations.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Utilize computer applications for database management and documentation.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend strategies to mitigate risks.
- Maintain organized filing systems for both paper and electronic documents.
- Compile data for insurance and permit requests as needed.
- Prepare and distribute various HSE metrics reports on a regular basis.
Compliance and Audits:
- Issue control numbers for incidents and audits to ensure proper tracking.
- Prepare documentation for safety audits and maintain compliance with organizational policies.
- Generate weather reports and manage document control processes.
Collaboration and Leadership:
- Work collaboratively with team members to achieve departmental goals.
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues through shared knowledge and skills.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- A high school diploma with 1-2 years of relevant experience in safety or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Candidates should be prepared for:
- Extended periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- The ability to lift up to 15 pounds when necessary.
