Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to collaborate with EEI's internal environmental policy and security teams, member companies, federal agencies, and industry groups to advance and secure balanced environmental policies, regulations, and legislation. This role will focus on key areas such as water quality and quantity under the Clean Water Act, siting and permitting under NEPA and the Endangered Species Act, and air quality and clean energy under the Clean Air Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and advocate for industry positions on resilience, preparedness, and wildfire-related policies, regulations, and legislation at the federal and state levels.
  • Formulate industry positions on infrastructure, siting and permitting, vegetation management, and other natural resource priorities under NEPA, the ESA, and related statutes.
  • Develop industry positions on water quality and quantity issues, including advocacy before federal and state regulators, Congress, and Executive Branch officials.
  • Assist in developing and advocating for industry positions on greenhouse gas and clean energy policies, regulations, and legislation.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field, including environmental studies, policy, natural resource planning, energy and environment, or public policy.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in environmental policy, utility operations, or equivalent at the federal or state level.
  • Familiarity with the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and utility permitting issues is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex issues and convey them clearly and conversationally.
  • Proven ability to manage complex tasks independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Comfortable working with team members at every level throughout the organization and with member company officials, including executive officers and staff.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is set at $160,000 - $210,000 annually. Starting annual salary will be determined on individual qualifications. EEI also offers an annual performance incentive, which is prorated for mid-year start dates. This incentive is between 5%-10% of annual base salary, based on performance.

Office Protocol

This is a hybrid position, which requires the incumbent to reside in the District of Columbia metropolitan area and come into the office a minimum of three days each week, with two of the mandatory days being Tuesday and Wednesday.
