Job Title:

Inverter Modeling and Hardware Testbed Experiments Engineer

Job Summary:

This internship position is designed for a student to support an R&D project related to the development of a hardware testbed with programmable inverters.

Responsibilities:
  1. Develop grid forming (GFM) and grid following (GFL) inverter models in electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulation tools.
  2. Program inverter microcontrollers.
  3. Conduct laboratory experiments on a hardware testbed.
Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering required. 2 years of PhD studies (preferred).

Ideal Candidate:

Electrical engineering Ph.D student with emphasis on power systems and power electronics. Strong experience with inverter controls. Strong experience with microcontroller programming (preferably Texas Instruments C2000). Strong experience with electromagnetic transients simulation tools (preferably PSCAD and Simulink). Strong programming skills (preferably Python and Matlab).

Compensation:

The hourly rate range for Student positions are: Undergraduate: $16-29 per hour, Masters: $25-31 per hour, Ph.D: $27-34 per hour.

As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI's Benefit Programs which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as set required by law) and holiday pay. However, as a Student employee you are eligible for the benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers' Compensation Insurance.

Relocation:

For Student positions which require one to relocate to an EPRI office. Relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs/expenses.
