Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafts a wide range of complex legal documents.
  • Evaluates incoming documents and materials, considering the case's nature and status.
  • Prepares legal instruments such as indictments, arrest warrants, motions, and legal memoranda.
  • Gathers necessary information from case files and law enforcement for inclusion in legal documents.
  • Ensures compliance with local court rules and formatting standards for recurring legal documents.
  • Assists attorneys in trial preparation by compiling trial notebooks, organizing exhibits, and preparing jury instructions.
  • Collaborates with victim/witness specialists to uphold departmental guidelines regarding victims' rights.
  • Communicates case updates to relevant staff and attorneys.
  • Utilizes legal research tools like Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis to verify citations and statutory references.
  • Conducts thorough proofreading and editing of legal briefs.
  • Files legal documents electronically with the U.S. District Court via the CM/ECF system.
  • Creates and organizes tables of contents and indices for legal briefs.
  • Drafts original correspondence requiring a solid understanding of legal procedures.
  • Manages electronic discovery databases, including scanning and linking case-related materials.
  • Processes and produces discovery materials efficiently.
  • Maintains electronic case files and manages deadlines using case management systems.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a paralegal certificate, JD, or enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year completed.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a litigation paralegal; trial experience is advantageous.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support, with a solid understanding of federal and state court systems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in legal research tools.
  • Familiarity with various computer applications, including word processing and database management.
  • Knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and tools is essential.
  • Ability to consistently deliver high-quality work under pressure.
