Job Summary:

The Emergency Department Technician at CHRISTUS Health plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. As a key member of the patient care team, you will assist registered nurses with delegated tasks, ensuring the delivery of exceptional care to patients with emergency medical and surgical conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Observe patient conditions, recognize changes in patient status, and report findings to the RN, promoting timely interventions and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Clean, procure, and return equipment and supplies, maintaining a safe and well-organized patient environment.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining stock items, ensuring adequate supplies for patient care.
  • Perform special procedures such as venipuncture, splinting, staple and suture removal, non-sterile dressing changes, peak expiration flow rate, pulse oximetry, and crutch training, under the direction of the RN.
  • Set up for Emergency Department procedures and assist the RN as directed, ensuring a seamless and efficient process.
  • Operate patient monitoring equipment, record rhythm strips, run 12-lead EKGs, biomarkers, and glucometer readings, under the direction of the RN.
  • Perform phlebotomy, collect laboratory specimens as ordered, and insert saline lock under the direction of the RN, promoting accurate and timely test results.
  • Adapt patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
  • Perform clerical and non-nursing duties on the nursing units, including serving as a receptionist, transcribing orders, requesting items for patient care, and assisting with maintaining patient, unit, and hospital records.
  • As a Patient Registrar, greet all patients in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner, demonstrating and maintaining a working knowledge of customer service principles and departmental expectations regarding customer service.
  • Document in the computer system all necessary demographic, insurance, and financial information, compiling or retrieving scheduled reports from the computer system.

Requirements:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of patient care experience in an acute care hospital or military medic setting or an Active EMT license in lieu of experience required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • ACLS required within six months of hire for Associates at Children's & Santa Rosa required.
  • PALS required within six months of hire for Associates at Children's & Santa Rosa required.
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.

Work Schedule: 7PM - 7AM
