Firefighter Trainee

Job Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

• Under the guidance of a Fire Department Officer, engage in fire suppression, rescue operations, and property protection.
• Act as a first responder, delivering essential life support and emergency medical care to individuals experiencing sudden health crises or accidents.
• Participate in fire prevention initiatives, including inspections, code enforcement, and community education.
• Involve in training drills and various departmental training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

This role involves specialized tasks performed in alignment with the standards set by the National and Salt Lake City Fire Department.

Employment Conditions:

Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check, adhering to city policies and applicable laws. Each criminal offense will be evaluated individually and will not automatically disqualify a candidate.

Interested candidates must complete an online application prior to the deadline. Uploading relevant certifications such as NREMT/Utah Paramedic or DD-214 is optional.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Hold a valid driver's license.
• Be eligible to work in the US by the time of the written examination.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS:

The evaluation process includes:

• National Testing Network (NTN) FireTEAM Written Exam - 20%
• National Testing Network Online Video Recorded Interview - 30%
• Oral Board Assessment - 50%
• Task Performance Assessment for Candidates (TPAC) - Pass/Fail

Valid CPAT certificates will also be accepted in lieu of passing the TPAC.

SCORING AND RANKING:

Final scores will be calculated by combining the weighted scores from the written exam, video interview, and oral board assessment. Candidates will be ranked based on their total score, with preference points added for:

• NREMT/Utah Paramedic: 1 point
• Veteran: 5 points
• Disabled Veteran: 10 points
