Entry Level FirefighterJob Overview:
We are seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Firefighters within the Salt Lake City Fire Department.Key Responsibilities:
- Under the guidance of a Fire Department Officer, engage in fire suppression, rescue operations, and property protection activities.
- Act as a first responder, delivering basic life support and emergency assistance to individuals experiencing sudden medical emergencies or accidents.
- Participate in fire prevention initiatives, including inspections, code enforcement, and community education.
- Engage in training drills and departmental training exercises to enhance skills and knowledge.
This role involves specialized tasks performed in alignment with the National and Salt Lake City Fire Department's performance and training standards. All candidates selected for this position must achieve journey-level certification by completing an approved apprenticeship program recognized by the Utah State Department of Labor.
Employment Conditions:
Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check, adhering to City policy and applicable laws. Criminal offenses will be evaluated individually and will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment.
Application Process:
Interested candidates must submit an online application before the deadline. Candidates may include their NREMT/Utah Paramedic certificate and/or DD-214 (or related documents) if applicable, although this is not mandatory.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Hold a valid driver's license.
- Be eligible to work in the United States on or before the written exam date.
Assessment Process:
The selection process includes:
- National Testing Network (NTN) FireTEAM Written Exam - 20%
- National Testing Network Online Video Recorded Interview - 30%
- Oral Board Assessment - 50%
- Task Performance Assessment for Candidates (TPAC) - Pass/Fail
Valid CPAT certificates will also be accepted in lieu of passing the TPAC.
Scoring and Ranking:
The final score for each applicant will be calculated by summing the weighted scores from the written exam, online video interview, and oral board assessment. Candidates will be ranked based on their final scores, with preference points added as follows:
- NREMT/Utah Paramedic: 1 point
- Veteran: 5 points
- Disabled Veteran: 10 points
