Position Summary

The selected candidate will engage in comprehensive regulatory fieldwork and administrative tasks within the Office of Radiation Control. This role involves qualifying as an x-ray facility inspector, training fellow inspectors on diverse radiation modalities, and conducting inspections across all assigned modalities utilized in healthcare, industrial, educational, or research settings. The position also necessitates readiness for emergency preparedness and response, including participation in training and drills as required.

Selective Criteria

Candidates must meet specific selective criteria in addition to general job qualifications. Those who do not meet these criteria will not be considered qualified.

Do you hold an FDA certification in Mammography? Do you possess a certification in Radiological Accident Assessment Concepts (RAAC) for emergency response?

Key Responsibilities

The essential functions of this role encompass core responsibilities that are standard across similar positions and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties. Conduct field studies or inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory standards; gather, analyze, and interpret data from various studies and inspections, providing recommendations as necessary. Perform statistical analyses of collected data. Review technical submissions and provide recommendations on permit applications to ensure adherence to regulations. Prepare technical reports, permits, and enforcement documentation. Address technical and regulatory inquiries from state, local, and federal agencies, as well as public and private entities.

Job Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist III Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

A Bachelor's degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or a related discipline. A minimum of six months of experience in managing environmental or natural resources projects, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. At least two years of experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data. Two years of experience interpreting environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Six months of experience utilizing automated information systems for data management. Six months of experience in technical report writing.

Employment Conditions

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DelDOT participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with the necessary information to confirm work authorization.
