About Built Ecology

Built Ecology represents WSP's national sustainability practice focused on the built environment. We offer a comprehensive suite of services, including sustainability strategy development, target-setting, workshop facilitation, high-performance design support, computational building performance analysis, certification assistance, energy and greenhouse gas master planning, and performance verification. Our projects span various types and scales, from master planning and district infrastructure to building design and ongoing operations. Built Ecology has been instrumental in delivering numerous high-profile projects globally, such as LEED Platinum buildings, Living Building Challenge and WELL projects, and Net Zero energy initiatives. Our solutions are characterized by innovation, integration, data-driven insights, and practicality.

Your Contributions

  • Conduct detailed energy modeling and performance analysis to meet established targets, certification requirements, and energy efficiency goals.
  • Utilize advanced energy modeling tools for carbon assessments and to develop pathways toward net zero carbon.
  • Analyze climate data and building usage patterns to guide design strategies.
  • Perform daylight and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses to assess high-performance design approaches.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing analysis findings and design recommendations.
  • Collaborate internally to ensure project sustainability objectives are met.
  • Review architectural documentation to ensure the integration of high-performance design features.
  • Provide strategic advice on LEED certification, particularly regarding energy and indoor environmental quality.
  • Deliver high-quality design analysis, load calculations, and technical project guidance across architecture and building systems.
  • Research and evaluate new and existing technologies applicable to the built environment, focusing on electrification and district-scale solutions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or Building Science.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in energy modeling for high-performance projects and building certifications.
  • Ability to independently interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with energy codes and standards, including IECC and ASHRAE.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and their components.
  • Experience with energy modeling software such as IES-VE, OpenStudio, or EnergyPlus.
  • LEED Green Associate certification.

Preferred:

  • Building Energy Modeling Professional certification.
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect credentials.
  • LEED Accredited Professional designation.
  • Experience with parametric energy modeling and district systems.
  • Knowledge of building performance standards and energy efficiency codes.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems in specialized environments such as data centers and laboratories.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Python, and tools like Rhino and Grasshopper.

Compensation
