Job Summary:

As a key member of the Union Tank Car Company team, the Repair Manager will oversee the efficient and effective management of repair operations, ensuring alignment with company standards, AAR, FRA, and DOT regulations. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role will involve supervising Area Managers and Supervisors across various shifts, driving performance metrics, and maintaining the production schedule for repairs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise repair operations, effectively coordinating direct reports to achieve optimal results
  • Maintain the production schedule for repairs, ensuring timely completion and quality
  • Drive performance metrics, monitoring productivity, safety, and work quality in all areas
  • Assist in preparing the shop budget, ensuring accurate forecasting and resource allocation
  • Train new supervisors, providing guidance and support to ensure seamless onboarding
  • Conduct annual evaluations of direct reports, providing constructive feedback and development opportunities
  • Organize and lead safety training sessions, promoting a culture of safety and compliance
  • Assist in preparing accident reports, ensuring thorough investigation and documentation
  • Supervise physical inventory counts, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance
  • Manage vacation schedules, ensuring adequate coverage and minimizing disruptions
  • Provide coverage for the Plant Manager when needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
Requirements:
  • Eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
  • 5 years of experience in tank car/rail car production leadership with a high school diploma or GED
  • Flexibility to work different shifts, including weekends
  • Computer proficiency, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable wearing safety equipment, with physical ability to climb ladders, enter tank cars, work in confined spaces, and at heights
  • Knowledge of AAR, FRA, DOT regulations, safety practices, welding, metal fabrication, and blueprint reading
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
