Position OverviewRole Summary:

The Surgical Services Technician plays a crucial role in the surgical team by performing various technical tasks to assist in the preparation and care of patients prior to surgery. This position involves ensuring the surgical environment is sterile and safe, while also providing emotional support to patients during their pre-operative experience.

Key Responsibilities:


• Uphold the standards of the organization by demonstrating competencies in self-leadership and teamwork.

• Under the supervision of a registered nurse, execute all tasks related to direct patient care and support in the operating room before and during surgical procedures.

• Proficiently scrub in multiple specialty areas, including but not limited to: Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Neurology, and Robotics, is highly desirable.

• Establish and maintain a sterile field, passing instruments and sutures to the surgeon, and assisting as directed.

• Utilize the physician's preference card as a reference when preparing for surgical cases and ensure that these cards are regularly updated.

• Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to provide optimal patient care.

• Maintain a safe surgical environment by adhering to technical and aseptic practices.

• Exhibit clinical proficiency in the management and care of surgical instruments and supplies.

• Follow Universal Barrier Precautions to ensure safety for both patients and staff in all care situations.

• Demonstrate the ability to monitor and manage the surgical environment, ensuring compliance with traffic control, dress codes, and sanitation policies.

• Familiarize oneself with facility protocols regarding the decontamination and sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies.

• Adapt patient care methods to meet the diverse needs of the patient population served by the department.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or an LVN/LPN program is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Certifications:

  • BLS certification is required.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting must be obtained within 180 days of graduation or an active LVN/LPN license is required.
