Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in designated areas, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff in accordance with established protocols and schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough cleaning of assigned spaces utilizing a systematic 8-step cleaning process or other relevant methods. This includes tasks such as sanitizing occupied and vacated patient rooms, washing walls, doors, ceilings, and furnishings, as well as maintaining floors through refinishing and burnishing when necessary.
- Perform routine dusting, damp mopping, and vacuuming of floor areas, including carpets, while managing waste collection and disposal from all hospital areas. Regularly clean waste receptacles and compactor zones, handle soiled linen, and ensure the distribution of clean linen.
- Request necessary cleaning supplies and equipment, returning any unused items to the housekeeping storage. Maintain cleanliness of carts and equipment, ensuring all items are organized and in their proper places.
- Operate various cleaning machinery, including mechanical and electrical devices such as buffers, scrubbers, and vacuums.
- Report any damaged furniture or equipment that requires repair to supervisors on a daily basis.
- Maintain cleanliness in all assigned building areas, including medication storage zones, following established protocols and schedules.
- Ensure secure access to designated medication storage areas and promptly notify nursing or clinical supervisors if any medications are found in unsecured locations.
- Provide training and guidance to new employees and other staff members in the units.
DCH Standards:
- Uphold performance metrics, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial benchmarks as outlined in performance evaluations.
- Adhere to compliance requirements as specified in the Employee Handbook.
- Follow DCH Behavioral Standards, fostering positive relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and oneself.

Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to understand verbal instructions and written procedures, as well as communicate effectively with others. Proficiency in reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English is essential.
WORK CONTEXT & PHYSICAL FACTORS
This position involves light work, including occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs and frequent handling of objects weighing between 10 to 20 lbs. Responsibilities include walking, standing, climbing ladders, pushing, and pulling. Manual dexterity is required, along with the ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, feel, talk, hear, and see. Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious materials, laboratory chemicals, and hazardous substances is expected. Use of personal protective equipment is necessary. Clear verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate ideas to groups are important. Physical presence at the work site is crucial. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal limits. The ability to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation is required.
