Job Description

To provide high-quality pharmaceutical services to long-term-care and institutionalized residents, under the direction and supervision of the Director of Pharmacy.

Participates in and oversees workflow for the dispensing of medication in accordance with all state and federal regulations, as well as Senior Care Pharmacy policy.

Ensures that medications provided to residents are safe, accurate, and available in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate medication orders for appropriateness of drug, dosage, route of administration, potential drug interactions, special geriatric considerations, warnings/precautions associated with prescribed medication, potential adverse reactions, and stability.
  • Suggest therapeutic intervention based on SCP Formulary to physician and/or to nursing staff where appropriate.
  • Collaborates with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide quality pharmacy services.
  • Procures and maintains all required documentation in accordance with state and federal regulations, as well as SCP policy.
  • Ensures accuracy of filled medications.
  • Provides Clinical expertise by responding professionally to medication-related questions.
  • Assists the Director of Pharmacy Operations with instructing, directing, and overseeing pharmacy technicians and staff.
  • Follows current guidelines for preparing all compounds, including I.V. therapy.
  • Understand and follow SCP Policy and Procedures.
  • Takes On-Call responsibilities on a routine basis.
Requirements
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected.
  • Supports the Mission, Values, and Vision of Senior Care Pharmacy.
  • Reports to Management immediately all instances of misappropriation/handling of company resources.
  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:
    • Maintaining confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee, and operations data.
    • Safety and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
    • Compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from harassment, and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
  • Supports and participates in common teamwork:
    • Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plans and completes job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
    • Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
    • Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers, or residents regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
    • Promotes positive public relations with residents and family members.
    • Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes, including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
  • Provides great customer service to internal and external customers:
    • Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members, and guests.
    • Supports Senior Care Pharmacy in a friendly, courteous, and cooperative manner.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures regarding HIPAA Privacy and Security.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs and/or oversees the completion of all routine and tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Accepts ownership and accountability for the successful completion of assigned functions and achievement of goals.
  • Strives for compliance by all staff with internal controls and state and federal regulations.
  • Participates in the development and successful implementation of plan(s) of improvement as indicated, recommended, and/or required by Supervisor, Director, or any other corporate or regulatory compliance consultant.
  • Communicates progress toward goals and ongoing obstacles to supervisor and company management team, verbally and/or in writing or as dictated.
  • Provides training to other staff that is necessary to successful job performance, consistent with company standards and expectations, and facilitates cross-functional awareness and proficiencies.
