Job Title: Teacher Assistant, Behavior Support

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Teacher Assistant, Behavior Support to join our team at Bastrop ISD. The successful candidate will provide behavioral support to students, assist teachers with instructional activities, and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist teachers with implementing behavior intervention plans and providing individualized support to students.
  • Teach students coping and social skills to promote positive behavior and relationships.
  • Collect and monitor data on behavior programs, including redirection, interventions, and behaviors.
  • Participate in meetings with teachers and other staff to discuss student progress and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Assist with daily classroom activities, prepare and modify activities to meet student needs, and provide support for independent study or small groups.
  • Implement strategies and supports recommended by instructional and related service providers.
  • Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plan.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and six months of related experience.
  • Knowledge of District, campus, and classroom policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of techniques used in assisting students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), First Aid, and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Ability to administer SAMA de-escalation and restraint techniques.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work responsibilities.
  • Ability to take direction from supervising teacher and/or district staff.
Working Conditions:

The work environment is a school setting with moderate to frequent exposure to bacteria, communicable diseases, unusual elements, and loud noises. The position requires prolonged standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) may be required.

The successful candidate will be required to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and may be exposed to aggressive, physical contact initiated by students.
