Staff Accountant Job Description

At Stantec, we're committed to delivering exceptional services to our clients. As a Staff Accountant, you'll play a vital role in our Accounting team, handling complex Government accounting practices with precision and expertise.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Management: Manage accounts receivable, cash receipts, accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing, and revenue tracking with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Project Support: Provide essential support to Project Managers throughout project setup, modification, execution, monitoring, and closeout phases, identifying and addressing potential issues promptly.
  • Joint Venture Accounting: Participate in joint venture accounting activities, including comprehensive financial statement preparation and the setup of new and existing joint ventures in Costpoint.
  • Reporting and Reconciliation: Ensure accurate quarterly and annual joint venture reporting to Corporate and assist with monthly reconciliations, including IFRS16 reconciliations.
  • Tax Reporting: Support tax reporting efforts by obtaining necessary documentation for submission to the tax department or CPA firm.
  • Subscription Revenue: Facilitate subscription revenue setup and processing.
  • Special Projects: Contribute to additional special projects as assigned.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, particularly Excel.
  • Flexibility: Flexibility and adeptness at meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Driver's License: Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Education and Experience
  • Experience: 3-5 years of previous experience in a similar accounting role.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, Finance, or related discipline preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Deltek Costpoint and familiarity with various types of government contracts, such as Time & Materials (T&M), Cost Plus Fixed Fees (CPFF), and Firm Fixed Price (FFP), as well as knowledge of the FAR, DFARS, JTR, DCAA Audit Guidelines, and GAAP.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

  • Salary Range: $62,800 - $91,100 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI
  • Salary Range: $62,800 - $97,700 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec, certain roles are bonus eligible.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage, and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
