Job Summary

This role is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the manufacturing plant, ensuring that customer requirements and organizational goals are met. The 2nd Shift Supervisor will direct the activities of hourly employees to minimize costs while meeting customer quality and delivery expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise hourly employees, monitoring procedures, quality, and quantity of production, and reviewing and approving production runs and quality records.
  • Take prompt corrective action regarding potential safety hazards, maintain excellent housekeeping, and comply with all safety rules and procedures.
  • Assign work to subordinates, delegate responsibilities, and authority.
  • Sign off on the Factory Work Order to ensure initial set-up is correct and matches the required information.
  • Making decisions regarding material and product quality.
  • Determine work schedules and line up orders on machines.
  • Establish work methods and procedures, train and develop hourly employees.
  • Plan and conduct regular employee meetings to review/resolve problems, provide quality and performance feedback, provide training, and work on continuing improvement projects.
  • Interpret company policies, settle complaints, and work-related problems.
  • Review work performance of subordinates and help them improve.
  • Implement quality improvement and cost reduction corrective actions.
  • Perform minor maintenance.
  • Prepare reports and records according to standard operating practices.
  • Analyze operating performances daily and take corrective actions.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with maintenance, scheduling, management, and other supervisors.
  • Meet or exceed performance goals as determined with the production manager.
  • Continually improve knowledge and understanding of business and production processes.
  • Initiate cutting die and/or printing plate repairs and/or replacements.
  • Approve all sick and vacation time.
  • Handle all disciplinary action, along with HR.
  • Proactively look for areas of improvement and roll out solutions.
  • Understand the basics of shipping and receiving trailers.
  • May be required to fill in production positions when there is a shift labor shortage.
  • May be required to cover other Supervisor shifts if coverage is needed.
Requirements
  • Required 5 years of combination of industrial work experience and/or education beyond high school.
  • College degree strongly preferred.
  • Required 2 years' experience in the manufacturing of corrugated shipping containers.
  • Experience as a lead strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual-Spanish strongly preferred.
