About the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a trilingual American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to work with deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a unique educational environment. As our remote ASL interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between ASL, English, and Spanish in our multilingual classrooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpretation Services: Provide skilled interpretation between ASL, English, and Spanish for online classes and school events, ensuring full access to our multilingual curriculum for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Collaboration with Bilingual Teachers: Work closely with bilingual teachers to understand lesson content and language objectives, adapting interpreting techniques to support language acquisition in a dual immersion setting.
  • Confidentiality and Professional Ethics: Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics standards, upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
  • Professional Development: Participate in professional development related to dual language education and sign language interpreting, staying up-to-date with the latest research and best practices.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in ASL Interpretation, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
  • Certification: Current RID certification.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience interpreting in educational settings.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in ASL, English, and Spanish, with the ability to switch between languages seamlessly and support multilingual communication.
  • Cultural Competence: Strong understanding of Deaf culture and dual language education principles.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using digital platforms for remote interpretation.
