Position Summary
The Manager of Retirement Benefits will assist the VP of Retirement Benefits in overseeing a team of Retirement Benefit Specialists while providing essential administrative support for various 401(k) Multiple Employer Plans (MEP) and client-sponsored plans. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities within MEP operations, including ensuring plan compliance, supporting clients and participants, managing retirement-related payroll functions, facilitating MEP mergers, and establishing new retirement plans within payroll software systems. The Manager of Retirement Benefits collaborates directly with retirement vendors to address issues and enhance existing plan processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor the Retirement Benefit Specialists, fostering their professional development.
- Oversee the administration of retirement plans, ensuring that operational tasks comply with plan provisions and ERISA regulations. This includes managing contributions, conducting year-end compliance testing, reviewing plan documents, and implementing plan corrections.
- Act as a point of escalation for the team and the organization regarding plan-related inquiries or issues.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders concerning 401(k) administration, offering expertise and support for company products and services.
- Identify and implement process enhancements to boost team efficiency and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
- Coordinate with retirement vendors to conduct due diligence on MEPs and resolve any arising issues.
- Work collaboratively and professionally with various departments, including Payroll, Client Relations, Sales, and Benefits.
- Assist in the integration of acquired company MEPs into the company’s 401(k) plan.
- Support annual 401(k) plan audits and Form 5500 filings by liaising with Third-Party Administrators, Recordkeepers, and Auditors.
- Maintain accuracy while managing high volumes of work in a rapidly growing environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications and technical skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and benefits databases is advantageous.
- Engage in special projects and additional assignments as directed by the VP of Retirement Benefits.

Education & Experience
Preferred qualifications include an Associate's Degree or a comparable combination of experience, skills, and education (including relevant non-traditional degree programs, certifications, or job training programs).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in 401(k) plan administration is required.
- At least 1 year of leadership experience is necessary.
- Experience with Third-Party Administration (TPA) is preferred.
- Experience with Multiple Employer Plans (MEP) or Pooled Employer Plans (PEP) is a plus.
- Retirement-related credentials such as QKA or RPA are advantageous.
- Experience in a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) is beneficial.
