Chief Communications Officer for Library Services

The Princeton University Library (PUL) is in search of a talented and innovative Director of Library Communications to spearhead the development and execution of PUL's communication strategies, both internally and externally. This pivotal role is essential in ensuring that all Library communications reflect and promote PUL's mission and strategic objectives, as articulated in our guiding principles.
Reporting directly to the Dean of Libraries, the Director collaborates closely with the Library Strategy Council (LSC) and other key leaders within PUL. They are responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and managing initiatives that clarify key messaging, enhance visibility, and maintain brand consistency across various platforms. Additionally, the Director will foster relationships with media representatives and the University's Office of Communications to elevate public awareness of PUL's initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Communications Development: Collaborate with the LSC to provide guidance on strategic communications, ensuring effective positioning and presentation of messaging.
- Implementation of Communications Plans: Lead the execution of PUL's Strategic Communications Plan, continually assessing strategies for content, messaging, target audiences, and platforms.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Ensure that principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion are integrated into all communication forms, including news releases, social media, and promotional materials.
- Team Leadership: Develop and mentor a team of four professionals, including a Publicity Manager and Communications Strategist, to enhance overall communication efforts.
- Media Asset Management: Oversee the creation and utilization of media assets that accurately represent the Library's identity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a related area, with a focus on managing and developing teams.
- Proven leadership capabilities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in overseeing design strategies and collaborating with graphic designers.
- Ability to manage diverse stakeholders and work effectively within varied teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience engaging with donors, non-profits, or fundraising organizations.
