Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regulatory Laboratory Coordinator to join our team at New Mexico State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the State Seed Laboratory, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of our services, and leading the improvement and innovation process to meet the needs of the seed industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform purity and germination testing on seed samples to verify quality and viability in accordance with laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Identify and categorize seed species to determine appropriate testing methods.
  • Conduct physical purity, noxious weed content, and germination seed exams.
  • Generate, review, and interpret lab results, and report discrepancies to the supervisor for regulatory action.
  • Maintain seed sample data and clean and maintain lab equipment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Three years of professional experience in seed testing or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the USDA Federal Seed Act, AOSA, ISTA, or Canadian seed testing rules.
  • Ability to develop and perform analysis following prescribed methodologies.
  • Supervisory experience and ability to lead a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Full-time experience performing purity, germination, or special tests on seeds.
  • Training and certification in seed testing.
  • Working knowledge of AOSA, ISTA, or Canadian seed testing rules.
Working Conditions

The work environment involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. The physical effort required is light, with occasional lifting of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds.
