The Home for Little Wanderers is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Mental Health Technician I within our Youth Community Crisis Stabilization Program. This position, under the guidance of a Mental Health Technician Supervisor, is crucial in ensuring a secure and supportive environment for young individuals experiencing mental health crises.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand and implement program routines and structures, maintaining awareness of the needs of youth requiring short-term mental health stabilization.
- Build and nurture positive relationships with youth through daily interactions, fostering a supportive atmosphere.
- Contribute to a therapeutic environment by ensuring safety and health, while addressing the physical and emotional needs of the youth.
- Oversee daily living activities for youth, including hygiene, chores, and transitions between scheduled activities, ensuring adequate supervision.
- Engage in planning and executing individual and small group activities aligned with treatment objectives, teaching essential life and social skills.
- Assist in the development and implementation of client treatment plans, ensuring that goals and interventions are effectively carried out.
- Administer First Aid as necessary and provide behavior support and intervention, including the use of appropriate physical restraint techniques when trained.
- Document and communicate effectively with program staff regarding youth progress and challenges, maintaining thorough records.
- Complete all required documentation, including incident reports and shift notes, in a timely manner.
- Participate in necessary meetings and professional development opportunities, actively engaging in supervision with management.
- Obtain MAP (Medication Administration Program) certification within six months of hire.
- Maintain professional interactions with coworkers, families, and youth, ensuring respect and appropriateness in all communications.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma is required.
- Preferred experience includes at least one year in a residential or inpatient mental health setting with youth.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn new software as needed.
