About the Role

The Paraprofessional Toybox Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the Director of the Early Childhood Education Program in Gilbert Public Schools District. This position requires a strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) for early childhood education, as well as the ability to work effectively with both preschool-aged children and high school students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director in running the program while the Director is in class and in their absence.
  • Supervise the activities of high school students and preschool-age children.
  • Maintain a safe and productive environment, ensuring compliance with Arizona State Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations.
  • Assist high school students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts and promote academic growth.
  • Evaluate and critique high school students during lab time, providing verbal and written feedback.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, preschool children, and high school students.
  • Design and implement classroom activities and materials for preschool-age students, adapting as needed to ensure inclusivity.
  • Collaborate with the Director, parents, and school psychologist to evaluate preschool-age students' progress and implement behavioral objectives.
  • Provide daily care for preschool-age students, including toileting accidents, dressing, administering medication, and basic health care.
  • Greet parents and children, assisting with transitions to school.
  • Maintain preschool-age student files and records, ensuring availability and accuracy.
  • Perform record-keeping and clerical functions, supporting the Director in providing necessary records and materials.
  • Assist other personnel as needed to support their work activities.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relevant to job functions.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 30 clock hours in Early Childhood Education training and 12 months of experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3 college credits in Early Childhood Education and 12 months of experience.
  • NAC/CDA/CCP/CPC certification and 12 months of experience.
  • Associates degree in Early Childhood or a closely related field and 6 months of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or a closely related field and 3 months of experience.
  • 24 credits with 6 credits in ECE and 12 months of experience.
Working Environment

The Paraprofessional Toybox Specialist will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, requiring adaptability and strong communication skills. The position involves frequent interaction with children, parents, and staff, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
