  • POSITION OVERVIEW
    • The Anesthesia Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting licensed anesthesia providers by preparing and managing the necessary equipment and supplies for anesthesia administration. This role also involves supporting staff with the logistics of surgical cases.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Safely transport patients from various departments to the Operating Room, ensuring all protocols are followed.
    • Facilitate the movement of stretchers throughout the surgical areas, maintaining cleanliness and readiness, including ensuring oxygen tanks are full and secure.
    • Gather essential equipment and supplies for procedures as directed by nursing staff or surgical technicians.
    • Assist in the transfer of patients to and from the operating table.
    • Handle the transportation of lab specimens and blood products as needed.
    • Restock essential items in locker rooms, scrub areas, and sterile rooms to maintain adequate supply levels.
    • Organize departmental equipment and ensure proper storage of anesthesia carts and related items.
    • Verify the functionality and condition of anesthesia equipment, ensuring it is ready for use.
    • Manage the turnover of anesthesia machines, including waste removal and restocking supplies between procedures. Prepare necessary supplies for advanced airway management and invasive monitoring systems.
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the needs of the anesthesia department as determined by the anesthesia provider or surgical nursing staff.
  • CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
    • Preferred qualifications include certification as a Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician.
  • EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
    • Documentation of completed education or academic transcripts is required for those involved in complex testing.
    • Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, with at least one year of relevant experience.
    • AHA Basic Life Support certification is mandatory.
    • Familiarity with medical terminology and patient care practices related to anesthesia and airway management is essential.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in technical and professional skills relevant to the role.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • This position operates within surgical areas, which may involve exposure to strong odors from cleaning agents and potential infectious materials. Adherence to safety protocols is crucial to minimize risks. The operating room environment may also present challenges such as elevated noise levels and temperature variations.
