Position Overview

HII Mission Technologies is in search of a skilled Avionics Systems Engineer to support our initiatives. This role requires a solid understanding of Department of Defense (DoD) and Air Force protocols, along with common engineering and scientific principles. The engineer will translate user requirements into weapons system specifications, facilitating the design, development, fabrication, testing, and evaluation of systems and subsystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting technological assessments of proposed designs and modifications, translating user needs into system requirements for the design and evaluation of systems and subsystems.
  • Support the creation or review of deliverables such as technical evaluations, engineering studies, reports, and acquisition strategies including System Specifications, RFPs, and Test Plans.
  • Participate in project team meetings and reviews, contributing to various assessments and evaluations as necessary.
  • Analyze equipment and software deficiencies, recommending corrective actions and assisting in the development and testing of solutions.
  • Conduct systems analyses related to avionics design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessments, providing technical guidance for the integration of new hardware and software.
  • Support performance assessments, cost-effectiveness studies, and reliability evaluations, contributing to the overall project management and risk assessment processes.

Minimum Qualifications

9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related field; 7 years with a Master's degree; 4 years with a PhD or Juris Doctorate; or a High School Diploma with 13 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in the design and troubleshooting of avionics subsystems such as Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems, Transponders, and various radio systems.
  • Familiarity with NAV displays, data buses, and the FAA and Air Force airworthiness certification processes.
  • Proficient in evaluating technical documents for compliance with specifications and summarizing findings for program offices.
  • Experience in engineering evaluations of operational and support issues, including assessments of Engineering Change Notices and related documents.

Active Secret Clearance required

Preferred Qualifications

  • FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) certification is highly desirable, with a strong understanding of FAA regulations related to Airworthiness Certification.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, Notices of Proposed Rulemaking, and Airworthiness Directives.
