Radiation Therapist Lead Job Description

The Radiation Therapist Lead is a key member of our Radiation Oncology team, responsible for delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our radiation therapy department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes in accordance with the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Accountable for the simulation of patients in preparation of radiation therapy, basic patient care, and the work of the associates in the department.
  • Implement directives related to adjusting staffing levels based on service needs and volumes.
  • Act as a resource and provide technical support to team members.
  • Verify treatment plans and beam energy in the treatment chart, noting any prescribed adjustments.
  • Document treatment plans, cumulative dose, site-specific doses, treatment parameters, instructions, diagrams, photos, and all billing information.
  • Perform treatment simulation and cerrobend block fabrication as required.
  • Observe and inquire about patient reactions or events, and take appropriate action.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of the unit, and ensure appropriate stock levels.
  • Complete daily, progress, and discharge documentation according to departmental standards.
  • Accurately document productivity information and participate in quality and patient safety initiatives.
  • Identify potential areas for improvement, including processes that could be streamlined or revised to improve patient satisfaction.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and take appropriate action.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program.
  • ARRT and RT(T) certifications in radiation therapy and current license in state of practice, if applicable.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Two (2) years of experience, with leadership experience preferred.
