Job Summary

Tower Federal Credit Union is seeking a highly skilled Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our team. As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you will be responsible for performing thorough underwriting reviews to ensure compliance with Tower FCU policies, procedures, and underwriting guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Underwriting Reviews: Conduct thorough underwriting reviews of consumer loans to ensure compliance with Tower FCU policies and guidelines, as well as state and federal regulations.
  2. Loan Approval: Approve, deny, or counter-offer consumer loans, exercising exception loan authority as needed.
  3. Risk Evaluation: Evaluate the risk of consumer lending loan applications daily, making timely and prudent underwriting decisions.
  4. Documentation Review: Review and analyze loan application information, matching it to documentation in the loan file and data in the Loan Origination System (LOS).
  5. Loan Eligibility: Determine continuous loan eligibility and update data in the LOS to ensure data integrity.
  6. Lending Authority: Obtain necessary lending authority approval when loan terms exceed underwriter's lending authority level.
  7. Compliance and Training: Participate in credit union compliance, product knowledge training, and adhere to government laws and regulations.
  8. Confidentiality: Follow established security measures to protect member confidentiality.
  9. Member Communication: Communicate with members regarding loan underwriting decisions, suggesting alternative products or services as needed.
  10. Team Collaboration: Work effectively in a team environment with Consumer Loan Underwriters, Processors, Funders, and other Tower team members.
Requirements
  • Education: 2-year degree in business or a related field.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of progressively responsible credit union or lending experience. Education and experience requirements vary based on levels.
  • Equivalent Combination: Or, an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Attendance: Ability to arrive at work routinely and promptly.

  • Writing: Ability to write operational reports, business correspondence, and complete required loan origination forms.

  • Representation: Ability to effectively represent the credit union to members and third-party strategic partners.
Working Conditions
  • Sitting and Standing: Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods and demonstrate sufficient dexterity and vision to operate a variety of office equipment.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Work Schedule: Ability to work the hours needed, which may extend beyond the defined work schedule when operating conditions dictate.
  • TFO Clearance: TFO clearance required.
