Position Title: Planner (Military Activities)


The U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) has a specialized requirement for joint staff planning aimed at aligning and coordinating Department of Defense (DoD) military operations with United States Government (USG) strategies. This role involves crafting contributions to strategies, campaign plans, and operational concepts that effectively translate strategic and operational goals into a series of interrelated activities and operations, ensuring collaboration with various DoD components, USG agencies, allies, coalition partners, and regional associates.

The Planner will deliver strategic, planning, exercise, and policy services in support of unique Joint Planning Team (JPT) and Operational Planning Team (OPT) initiatives.

Location: U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) Headquarters

Security Clearance Level: Top Secret/SCI eligible

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates all elements of the Joint Operational Planning Process, including Mission Analysis, Course of Action (COA) Development, COA Analysis (Wargaming), COA Comparison, and Decision-making.
  • Ensures a seamless transition of plans for execution by providing teams with situational awareness and rationale for critical decisions necessary for coherent planning to execution.
  • Supports the planning and implementation efforts of counterparts in USCENTCOM Component Commands, other Combatant Commands, the Joint Staff, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense, as well as partners in other Federal departments and agencies, Allies, Coalition members, and partner nations.
  • Offers technical guidance to joint planning teams and working groups regarding Joint Planning, the Joint Operational Planning Process, Execution System, Exercise/Training Planning, and Joint initiatives.
  • Develops and presents briefings to senior leadership on topics relevant to the task order.
  • Conducts analyses and provides recommendations for USCENTCOM's implementation and planning efforts involving joint, interagency, and multinational partners and allies.
  • Assists directed joint planning teams and working groups in coordinating operations within the USCENTCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR).
  • Advises the USCENTCOM Commander's staff on strategic and regional matters.
  • Produces analyses, recommendations, and drafts for joint planning teams and working group approval, contributing to the development of orders, analyses, estimates, and briefings for USCENTCOM leadership.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in joint strategic planning.
  • A minimum of 3 years of planning experience with comprehensive knowledge of Joint Publication 5-0.
  • Experience in a military or civilian role at a Geographic or Functional Combatant Command Headquarters.
  • Proficient in developing joint, interagency, and multinational operations within defined strategies.
  • Experience in planning, researching, and providing qualitative analysis of kinetic, non-kinetic, lethal, and non-lethal options against various adversaries.
  • Graduates of Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS), School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), or similar institutions are preferred.
  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Prior experience with USCENTCOM is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Must be eligible for TS/SCI clearance.
