Job Overview

Position Title: Lead Packaging Specialist

Salary: $26-$28/Hour

Role Summary:

The Lead Packaging Specialist is responsible for overseeing all functions associated with the packaging process. This role includes operating and troubleshooting packaging machinery and ensuring the quality of packaged products. The individual will be expected to master all elements of cider packaging and perform additional tasks as required by operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare dry goods for use in packaging operations.
  • Conduct visual inspections of finished products to identify any quality issues or packaging defects, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Palletize finished goods and prepare them for distribution, including strapping, stretch wrapping, and labeling.
  • Operate kegging machinery for cleaning, filling, and palletizing kegged products.
  • Manage and organize dunnage materials effectively.
  • Utilize forklifts and pallet jacks for material handling within the facility.
  • Handle and utilize pressurized gases safely.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized production area.
  • Use pressure washers to clean production floors and equipment exteriors.
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain safety practices.
  • Monitor and operate packaging equipment, performing basic troubleshooting and resolving common issues.
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding equipment malfunctions.
  • Execute cleaning and sanitization protocols for equipment and workspace.
  • Restock consumables necessary for packaging operations.
  • Accurately record and report production metrics to management.
  • Implement preventative maintenance schedules for packaging equipment.
  • Understand the packaging timeline and prioritize tasks to meet daily goals.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control checks, operating relevant machinery.
  • Facilitate tooling changeovers between different packaging formats.
  • Assist in leading and training team members during packaging and repackaging operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of packaging activities and maintenance logs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a beverage production environment preferred.
  • Prior experience in packaging operations is advantageous.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Forklift Certification with proven ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and overtime as necessary.
  • Strong reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and capacity to manage multiple tasks.
  • Commitment to excellence in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

The characteristics of the work environment include:

  • Regular exposure to a beverage production facility.
  • Working with hazardous materials.
  • Frequent exposure to wet surfaces and equipment.
  • Interaction with alcohol, high voltage, hot water, and pressurized gases.
  • Contribution to maintaining a clean and sanitary workspace.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb.
  • Ability to frequently communicate and perceive sensory information.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 55 pounds regularly and occasionally maneuver heavier loads.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms and work at heights up to 20 feet.
  • Vision capabilities required include close and distance vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
