Waste Connections is seeking a Heavy Machinery Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a robust commitment to safety and possess a proactive attitude. Compensation: $33.00-$35.00 per hour.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute repairs and conduct preventative maintenance services. Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on powertrain, electrical, and hydraulic systems of heavy machinery, including excavators, wheel loaders, forklifts, and man-lifts. Carry out power washing on heavy machinery during routine maintenance.
  • Complete necessary documentation using maintenance software to track repairs, parts usage, and repair times.
  • Review and address repairs noted on Daily Inspection Reports.
  • Conduct safety inspections on vehicles and machinery.
  • Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns that may occur.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with corporate and OSHA standards.
  • Engage in operator training to promote best practices in maintenance and equipment usage.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires significant physical activity, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Work may be conducted outdoors or indoors in a repair setting.
  • Typically in well-lit and ventilated areas.
  • May involve working in awkward positions and handling greasy or dirty tools, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
  • Often works independently and is expected to report on work status throughout the day.
  • Will interact with suppliers and vendors to procure parts and coordinate services.
  • Must be aware of personal limitations and seek assistance when needed.
  • A service vehicle equipped with necessary tools and equipment will be provided.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Clean driving record.
  • High level of integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Ability to work independently and self-manage.
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and urgent situations.
  • 3-5 years of experience with heavy machinery.
  • Must provide personal tools and toolbox.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is preferred.
