Waste Connections is currently seeking a Heavy Machinery Technician. Candidates for this position should demonstrate a robust commitment to safety and possess a proactive attitude towards their work. We provide competitive compensation along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, and a 401K plan. The role requires a commitment of 55-60 hours per week.

Compensation: $33.00-$35.00 per hour.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute repairs and conduct preventative maintenance services. Responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing powertrain, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy machinery, including excavators, wheel loaders, forklifts, and man-lifts. Perform power washing on equipment during routine maintenance. Complete necessary documentation using maintenance software for tracking repairs, parts usage, and repair time accounting. Review and address repairs noted on Daily Inspection Reports. Conduct safety inspections on vehicles and machinery. Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns occurring at the facility. Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with corporate and OSHA standards. Engage in training for equipment operators on best maintenance practices and proper equipment usage.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Involves significant physical activity, requiring heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects exceeding 50 pounds. Work may be performed outdoors or indoors, repairing equipment in the field. Typically operates in well-lit and ventilated conditions. May require working in confined or awkward positions and handling greasy or dirty tools, necessitating adherence to basic safety protocols. Often works independently and is expected to report on work status and completion throughout the day. Will communicate with suppliers and external vendors to procure parts and coordinate services. Must be aware of personal limitations and seek assistance when needed. A service vehicle equipped with toolboxes, welder/air compressor, and crane will be provided.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Clean driving record. High level of integrity and trustworthiness. Self-motivated and comfortable working independently. Willingness to work occasional weekends. Adaptable to changing priorities and able to respond professionally to urgent situations. 3-5 years of experience with heavy machinery. Must provide personal tools and toolbox. Welding and fabrication experience is preferred.
