Job Opportunity

The Los Angeles Community College District is seeking a dynamic and motivated Adjunct Instructor to teach Nursing Psychiatric/Mental Health courses at one of our nine colleges. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a range of courses within the Nursing discipline, promoting engaging and inclusive educational environments that support student learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and maintain active participation in departmental meetings and committees.
  • Develop and implement curriculum content in the content area, with a focus on student learning outcomes.
  • Provide instruction, evaluation of students, and planning, with a commitment to student success.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Nursing, or Bachelor's degree in Nursing and Master's in Health Education or Health Science, or the equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last five years, or one academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area.
  • Current California RN License.
  • Sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Theory.
  • Experience in mental health acute patient care and eligibility for California Board of Registered Nursing approval as an instructor in Mental Health Nursing.
  • Possess an excellent academic record and have experience teaching mental health at the community college level.
  • Possess the ability to assume responsibility and accountability for instruction, evaluation of students, and planning and implementing curriculum content in the content area.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to student success.
  • Demonstrate the understanding of, or have experience in, the use of student learning outcomes (SLO's) in promoting student success.
  • Possess a commitment to collegiality within the instructional environment by interacting effectively with colleagues and maintaining active participation in departmental meetings and committees.
Compensation

The salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $85.09 per standard hour, plus an office hour differential of $19.91 per hour for classroom assignments. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential.
