Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant II, Certified provides clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting. This role requires a high level of autonomy and independence, with a focus on delivering exceptional patient care and contributing to a dynamic team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine clinical and administrative tasks, including rooming and intake processes, collecting patient data, and assisting providers with treatments and examinations.
  • Collects and processes patient specimens, administers medications, and performs tests under the direction of a provider.
  • Reviews patient records to determine necessary health screenings and ensures exam rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Provides patient education and support, including after-visit instructions and self-care guidance.
  • Assists with patient registration, scheduling, and referrals, as well as answering clinic phones and managing in-basket tasks.

Requirements:

  • Requires high school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either CAAHEP or ABHES.
  • Must possess Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, NCMA, NRCMA, or CCMA, and Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC.
  • Possesses at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified, and demonstrates possession of competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet.

Work Environment:

This role is employed by UNC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic outpatient clinic setting, providing clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members.
