Position Overview
The EHS&S Specialist Engineer plays a vital role within the ASP team, collaborating closely with manufacturing, quality assurance, and research & development cross-functional teams to identify and fulfill EHS needs and sustainability objectives across North America.
As a medical device manufacturer, ASP integrates EHS&S operations into a comprehensive quality management system, essential for maintaining uninterrupted plant operations.
Your responsibilities will include evaluating the effectiveness of EHS&S initiatives and working in partnership with various departments to develop, implement, enhance, and maintain EHS&S programs and processes, ensuring a safe, compliant, and sustainable workplace. Team collaboration is crucial for success in this role. The EHS Specialist Engineer reports to the Director of Global Facilities/EHS and Sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Under limited supervision and general direction, this position will:
1. Develop, implement, enhance, and sustain EHS and sustainability initiatives.
2. Create, deploy, and track EHS&S training programs.
3. Maintain accurate EHS&S records and reporting.
4. Conduct EHS&S compliance audits.
5. Perform audits of the EHS&S Management System.
6. Engage frequently with manufacturing, quality assurance, research & development, and field teams to understand their needs and requirements.
7. Complete Job Hazard Assessments.
8. Support emergency response and first aid initiatives.
9. Focus on continuous improvements across all aspects of EHS&S programs.
10. Communicate business-related issues or opportunities to the next management level.
11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
Support the ISO 14001 environmental certification process for the manufacturing facility.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Associate's Degree
Bachelor's Degree
Master's Degree
PhD Degree
Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Years of Relevant Experience:
1-2 years of experience in EHS within a medical device manufacturing or similar environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation capabilities.
Able to manage multiple tasks and solve problems effectively.
Ability to interact comfortably and successfully with employees at all levels and from diverse backgrounds.
A quick learner capable of assessing, evaluating, and acting on situations promptly.
Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
Resilient and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and well-developed computer skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
Willingness to travel up to 10%.
Responsibility for Others and Internal Interactions:
This position does not have any direct reports.
External Interactions:
Occasional interaction with government regulatory agencies and external compliance auditors.
