About the Role:

We are currently seeking a dedicated Controller to oversee the financial operations of a prominent non-profit organization. This role is crucial in managing the accounting and financial aspects of the organization, ensuring compliance and promoting fiscal responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage all financial accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring adherence to GAAP standards and regulatory requirements pertinent to non-profit organizations.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard revenue, manage costs, and oversee program budgets against actual expenditures.
  • Coordinate audit activities and oversee the preparation of annual tax forms 990s and 1120.
  • Analyze financial data consistently and prepare accurate financial reports; communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to senior leadership, keeping them informed of the organization’s financial health.
  • Support the leadership team in the annual budgeting and planning process; review financial plans and compare them to actual results to identify and address variances.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, enhancing recruitment, training, and retention strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with 2CFR200 regulations.
  • Act as the primary liaison with banking institutions and manage the organization’s cash flow and forecasting.

Qualifications:
  • CPA designation is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and finance, with a background in accounting and audit, followed by experience in presenting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience in the non-profit or public sector is essential.
  • Familiarity with tax forms 990s and 1120 is necessary.
  • Knowledge of 2CFR200 regulations is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to convey key data to senior management and external partners.
  • Demonstrated integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the organization’s mission.
  • Ability to translate financial concepts for colleagues in programmatic and fundraising roles.
  • Technologically proficient, with experience collaborating with IT staff to enhance processes and systems for increased efficiency.
