Secure Communications Network Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Unified Communications Network Engineer, you will design and implement conferencing and collaboration solutions using commercial and standards-based technologies to connect decision makers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement conferencing and collaboration solutions
  • Interact with technical specialists in other fields as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Provide mentorship to support early career staff growth and development
  • Detail work in technical reports and memoranda and present outcomes to sponsors and the technical community

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in information science and technology, computer science, computer engineering or another related technical field
  • At least ten years of relevant experience in developing and deploying Unified Communications solutions
  • Demonstrated skill in designing, deploying, and configuring session border controllers, as well as managing voice and video gateways
  • Demonstrated competence in network design, considering cybersecurity measures, and possessing a strong foundation in communication systems protocols throughout the network stack
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to document design decisions in written formats and present to both expert and non-expert audiences
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (or higher) in information science and technology, computer science, computer engineering or another related technical field
  • At least fifteen years of experience in developing and deploying Unified Communications solutions
  • Vendor or industry certifications in the operation and management of varied vendor communications technologies
  • Experience in the architecture, design, and implementation of unified communications and online collaboration technologies for commercial and/or government applications
  • Proficiency in the performance of media codecs, video and teleconferencing technologies, as well as conference management and collaboration software
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community, sponsors, and programs
  • Hold an active TS/SCI clearance or an active Top Secret security clearance with a SSBI and have recently been adjudicated for SCI access
