The Practical Nursing Specialist plays a vital role in executing tasks assigned by the registered nurse, ensuring optimal patient support.

In straightforward nursing scenarios, the LPN operates with minimal oversight. In more intricate cases, the LPN collaborates closely with the registered nurse.

Key Responsibilities

Assess and evaluate patient requirements to deliver supportive care throughout the surgical process, while meticulously maintaining patient records.

Relay essential information to colleagues.
Ensure a secure environment for patients to mitigate risks of injury.
Identify and address issues, providing relevant information to supervisors and documenting actions taken.
Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical equipment.
Operate and troubleshoot specialized patient monitoring devices.
Proactively manage inventory levels of medical supplies and medications.

Accountable for the safe administration of medications (excluding IV procedures) and other therapeutic measures.

Confirm that informed consent is obtained prior to sedation.
Consult with supervisors or physicians as necessary.
Engage in continuous professional development and educational opportunities.
Participate in training sessions and team meetings.
Follow directives from supervisors and adhere to established protocols.

Safeguard patient confidentiality by refraining from discussing sensitive information outside designated areas.

Maintain adaptability and perform additional tasks as required.
Operate within the legal boundaries of nursing practice.
Refer complex situations to the appropriate personnel.
Report any errors or omissions.
Contribute to performance enhancement initiatives.
Assist in the upkeep of emergency equipment and perform regular checks.
Support the completion of patient documentation as needed.
Observe universal safety precautions.
Assist with cleaning duties as directed by nursing staff.
Notify the nurse in charge when taking breaks or concluding shifts.
Explain procedures to patients, providing comfort and reassurance as necessary.
Execute other tasks as assigned by the clinical director or physician within legal limits.
Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
Prepare examination rooms for incoming patients.
Assist with phone inquiries when required.

Qualifications

What You Bring
Reliable transportation for travel between locations as needed.
Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program.
Current licensure from the state nursing board as a practical nurse.
IV certification is required.
Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is essential.
Experience in an outpatient surgical setting is preferred.
Knowledge of proper supply handling techniques pre- and post-procedure.
Understanding of tissue specimen management and handling.
Familiarity with safe patient positioning for various medical procedures.
Awareness of organizational policies and procedures relevant to nursing services.
Knowledge of current literature and advancements in the field, particularly regarding operating room practices.
Willingness to undergo background checks as required.
