OVERVIEW

The role involves assisting in the oversight and safeguarding of special education students, personnel, and property. Responsibilities include gathering insights to de-escalate situations, addressing behavioral issues, and providing necessary documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community; proficient verbal and written communication abilities are essential.
  • Willingness and capability to work with students with special needs.
  • Ability to remain on foot or walk for extended durations.
  • Must successfully complete an agility assessment for security personnel.
  • Completion of a security training program is required before the conclusion of the probationary period.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess specific security requirements within classrooms and throughout the campus to maintain a secure environment.
  • Evaluate emergency scenarios to determine the appropriate response, ensuring the safety of students, staff, and property.
  • Assist in non-crisis intervention or physical restraint during student de-escalation.
  • Monitor, observe, and document student behavior in designated areas.
  • May assist students with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations to facilitate their participation in the school environment.
  • Support in transferring or lifting students to aid them in daily activities.
  • Identify individuals violating school regulations or state laws and report to the relevant authorities.
  • Provide assistance in student management in the surrounding community as necessary.
  • Support bus drivers with security and discipline issues; may be required to ride the school bus.
  • Participate in various meetings to exchange information and enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Serve as a witness in disciplinary hearings or court cases when required.
  • Submit oral and written reports to the school or district as necessary.
  • Willingness to work beyond contractual hours when required.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is essential.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the work unit.

Reports to Site Administrator.
