Job Title: Outpatient Urology Tech

At Yale New Haven Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Outpatient Urology Tech to join our team. As a key member of our urology department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care activities that support comprehensive care to patients.
  • Collaborate with team members to create a safe and supportive environment for patients.
  • Perform patient care responsibilities consistent with age-specific criteria under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Respect the rights of healthcare consumers by ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
  • Assist with shaving, clipping, and prepping as required under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Recognize the physical, spiritual, and psychological needs of patients and families.
  • Apply the principles of asepsis and disinfection in a knowledgeable manner in the care of supplies, instruments, and the environment.
  • Identify the principles of sterile technique and apply these techniques when assisting with procedures.
  • Prepare items and instruments for sterilization, receive, sort, decontaminate, clean, and assemble instrument trays.
  • Use and evaluate sterilizers and complete all required documentation.
  • Verify exposure to sterilization process and integrity of all instruments, equipment, and sterile packaging.
  • Report defective material or equipment to specialty team coordinators.
  • Follow the appropriate dress code according to unit policy.
  • Assist in preparation of procedure rooms and select supplies and equipment for procedures.
  • Open sterile supplies using sterile technique and identify the appropriate types of accessory equipment for procedures.
  • Ensure safety of patients by exercising aseptic techniques and preventing hazards related to the environment and the use of equipment.
  • Prepare procedural fields with all sterile supplies needed and prep patients for sterile/non-sterile urologic procedures.
  • Continually monitor and report any breaks in aseptic technique.
  • Ascertains that all specimens are properly identified and reviewed.
  • Adhere to standard precaution guidelines when handling/transporting multiple specimens, cultures, or blood samples to the laboratory.
  • Assist in preparing next assignment for room.
Qualifications:

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED and CNA or other educational equivalent is required. Additional experience preferred will be specified depending on placement. Either two years of relevant direct patient care experience or education as stated above is required. All candidates must successfully complete the Urology Competency Based Training and Practicum, including age-specific competencies within three months of starting in the position.

6 months of acute care experience or equivalent is preferred. Busy outpatient urology offices require the ability to work in all locations - Hamden, Madison, Old Saybrook, New Haven.
