Job Title: Laboratory Technician Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Technician Supervisor to join our team at the Louisiana Department of State Civil Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and performing a variety of diagnostic laboratory tests, as well as overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and perform diagnostic laboratory tests
  • Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory regulations and standards
  • Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures
  • Train and supervise laboratory personnel

Requirements:

  • Five years of experience as a laboratory assistant, laboratory technical assistant, laboratory technician or blood bank phlebotomist
  • Three years of experience must have been as a laboratory technician
  • Completion of a twelve month training program in histological techniques under the supervision of a qualified pathologist will substitute for two years of the general experience and one year of the laboratory technician experience
  • Satisfactory completion of a one year program in medical laboratory technology at an accredited vocational-technical school will substitute for two years of the general experience
  • College training will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience provided that six semester hours of each thirty are in any one or a combination of these specialized fields: laboratory animal technology, laboratory animal science, animal science, biology, microbiology, chemistry, nursing, zoology, agricultural sciences, physics, bacteriology, histological techniques, medical technology, immunology, urology or renewable resources
  • An associate degree in medical technology or nursing will substitute for two years of the general experience and one year of the laboratory technician experience
  • A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in bacteriology, biology, histological techniques, medical technology, immunology, urology, zoology, chemistry, histopathology, mycology, or microbiology or any combination of the above coursework will substitute for two years of the general experience and one year of the laboratory technician experience
  • Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science will substitute for two years of the general experience and one year of the laboratory technician experience
  • Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science will substitute for two years of the general experience and two years of the laboratory technician experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Stand for long periods
  • Climb ladders & stairs
  • Work with arms above the head for periods of 5-10 minutes
  • Perform basic sanitation practices-mopping, scrubbing, pressure washing
  • Ability to withstand extreme temperatures
  • Operate motor vehicle
  • Distinguish colors
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Understand Standard Operating Procedures and follow them
  • Have tolerance to animal hair and dander
  • Write legibly
  • Problem solve
