Job Summary

Veolia Environnement SA is seeking a highly skilled Power Plant Control Room Operator to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our biomass power plant, ensuring the reliable generation of electricity to the grid.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and maintain proper operation of all machinery, adhering to standard and established practices.
  • Operate equipment to meet the requirements of district heating and cooling processes, ensuring an uninterrupted steam and chilled water supply to our customers.
  • Monitor and record pressures, temperatures, and fuel consumption on operating equipment, identifying and informing appropriate individuals of symptoms requiring maintenance action.
  • Maintain fuel, hydraulic, coolant, and water levels of engines, boilers, expansion tanks, compressors, pumps, and related equipment, servicing filters, strainers, cooling tower screens as needed.
  • Monitor machinery for noise and vibrations, ensuring safe operating conditions and taking immediate corrective action when necessary.
  • Read and interpret information and instructions on material data safety sheets, applying knowledge of hand and power tools and general repair knowledge to assist in the maintenance and repair of engines, boilers, compressors, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Clean and maintain engines, chillers, and other equipment, performing general cleaning in the chiller/boiler room area.
  • Perform water testing and may be required to obtain certification to wear a full-face respirator.
  • Perform and promote work in a safe manner according to established safety procedures, reporting or rectifying any unsafe conditions.
  • Display willingness to work in a team environment, following directions and instructions from members of management.
  • Be present and ready to begin working at the designated time, available to work occasional scheduled or unscheduled overtime, and willing to work rotating shifts, including holidays, nights, and weekends.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in the power generation industry, operating steam generators and steam turbines to produce electricity to the grid.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of steam generators, specifically solid fuel boilers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and drawings, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of daily plant logs.
  • Familiarity with distributed control systems (DCS) and human machine interfaces (HMI's) controlling complex systems.
  • Valid Georgia driver license or ability to obtain.
Working Conditions

The Power Plant Control Room Operator will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with occasional exposure to operations hazards, including dust, fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work temperatures, slippery surfaces, water, and electrical hazards. The employee will be required to stand, sit, walk, use hands, fingers, and arms, speak, and hear, with occasional need to stop, kneel, or crouch, and enter confined spaces.
