Boston, Massachusetts, United States Kojin Therapeutics Full time

About Kojin Therapeutics

Kojin Therapeutics, Inc. is at the forefront of innovative research in cell-state and ferroptosis biology, aiming to create pioneering therapies for various cancers and other serious health conditions. Our Boston-based company is named after the Japanese deity symbolizing the control of fire for humanity's benefit. We have established a cutting-edge drug-discovery platform that merges computational chemistry, structural biology, chemical biology, target-informed screening, and mechanism-driven pharmacology to develop small-molecule drugs that specifically influence ferroptosis, a newly identified form of programmed cell death. Our organization is supported by a robust network of premier investors and is led by a seasoned team of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry professionals, driven by a passionate and skilled workforce.

Position Overview

Kojin Therapeutics is looking for a dedicated, skilled, and collaborative scientist to enhance our expanding biology division. The successful candidate will possess expertise in essential areas of chemical biology and thrive in a multidisciplinary environment alongside biologists, translational pharmacologists, medicinal chemists, enzymologists, and DMPK specialists engaged in the creation of innovative therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement novel chemical biology methodologies to facilitate target validation and small-molecule profiling, emphasizing chemoproteomics and activity-based protein profiling.
  • Identify and apply inventive strategies to investigate covalent ligands.
  • Design and execute experiments to support multiple drug discovery initiatives concurrently.
  • Prepare samples for proteomic evaluation and work closely with our mass spectrometry team for data collection and analysis.
  • Generate, assess, and interpret data while effectively communicating findings.
  • Assist with daily laboratory operations, including reagent management, inventory organization, and administrative tasks.
  • Oversee research associates and contribute to the coordination of activities with external contract research organizations (CROs).
  • Foster a laboratory culture centered on scientific excellence, integrity, and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Chemical Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral experience utilizing chemical biology and molecular biology techniques in small-molecule drug discovery within an academic or industrial context.
  • Solid foundation in chemical biology techniques for target engagement and functional characterization of ligands in cellular assays.
  • Proven expertise in chemoproteomics, activity-based protein profiling, and the characterization of both covalent and non-covalent ligands.
  • Familiarity with standard molecular and cell biology techniques to support ligand characterization (e.g., western blotting, cell culture, assay development, in vitro viability assays).
  • Strong publication history showcasing innovative applications of chemical biology methods to explore small-molecule mechanisms of action.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a talent for translating high-level scientific concepts into concrete experimental plans.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting scientific data.
