Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Scientist II to join our team at Brigham & Women's Hospital(BWH). The successful candidate will have a strong background in biological research and experience in molecular biology, genomic, and cellular biology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently perform routine and non-routine experiments, including tissue harvesting, cell and microbial culture, and molecular biology methodologies.
  • Animal husbandry experience, specifically breeding mouse strains, weanings, crosses, genotyping, cryopreservation, exporting mice and importing mice from outside collaborators.
  • Perform experiments, including specific immunology assays, tissue culture, PCR analyzing in vitro experiments, in vivo disease models (EAE, colitis, tumor models) and metabolic assays.
  • Perform, observe, record, and analyze data using advanced statistical techniques.
  • Maintain long-term tissue cultures of human and mouse cell lines and monitor cells for viability and contamination.
  • Perform literature searches and help prepare presentations and written articles for publication.
  • In collaboration with Dr. Vinee Purohit, establish new and modify existing research techniques.
  • Coordinate schedule of tests and procedures, contributing to the generation of protocols and documents.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
Qualifications
  • BS in a biological/physical science required.
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in a directly related research setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of initiative and ability to work with little supervision.
  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology, genomic, and cellular biology helpful.
  • Background in immunology/metabolism/both will be preferred.
  • Computer literacy and working knowledge of data management systems.

  • High degree of computer literacy.
  • Sound analytical and organizational skills.
  • Requires good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities.
  • Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data statistically and to logically present it.
