Aquatics Director Job Description

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aquatics Director to lead our Aquatics Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the Aquatics Department, ensuring compliance with all Association standards and safety procedures, and providing leadership and support to our staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Aquatics Department, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and manage the Aquatics Department budget to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual goals.
  • Provide leadership and support to our staff and volunteers, including training and development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all Association standards and safety procedures, including regular safety inspections and emergency procedures.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote our Aquatic programs to members and the community.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our Aquatic programs, including participation and feedback from members and the community.
Requirements:
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguarding, American Safety & Health Institute, or American Red Cross certification.
  • Ability to maintain required certification and demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in aquatics with 3-4 years of supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree, Y-USA LG Instructor Certification, YUSA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification, CPO or POOL Certification, preferred.
Working Conditions:

The Aquatics Director will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong communication and leadership skills. The position will involve working in a pool environment, with frequent exposure to water and potential hazards. The Aquatics Director must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on safety and customer service.
