Position Overview

The UC Irvine Medical Center - Otolaryngology is in search of a dedicated Assistant Research Scientist specializing in Otology. This role is designed for both part-time and full-time candidates who possess a strong background in CRISPR or gene therapy. The successful applicant will engage in developing therapeutics for the inner ear, utilizing both cell culture and animal models.

Key Responsibilities
  • Experimental Techniques: Conduct hands-on analysis of DNA/RNA and proteins using various methods such as ELISA, qPCR, ddPCR, flow cytometry, and western blot.
  • Molecular Biology Proficiency: Demonstrate expertise in molecular cloning, viral vector production, and genomic DNA/RNA processing for downstream analysis.
  • Gene Editing Experience: Apply gene editing techniques to modify mammalian cell genomes using CRISPR tools or viral vectors (AAV, lentiviral, adenovirus, etc.) or mRNA.
  • Assay Development: Create and implement assays to evaluate CRISPR or viral-based gene delivery constructs, focusing on cell type specificity and expression.
  • Data Evaluation: Critically assess experimental data and effectively communicate scientific findings through presentations and written reports.
  • Grant Assistance: Support the preparation of grant applications as necessary.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a robust background in molecular genetics and experience in CRISPR research or animal hearing studies is advantageous but not mandatory.
