About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at Anne Arundel Dermatology. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our clinical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and confirm patient information
  • Obtain and record vital signs
  • Organize patient flow and ensure a smooth clinical experience
  • Prepare procedure trays, instruments, and equipment according to instructions
  • Prepare and route lab specimens to the correct laboratory
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner
  • Check and respond to nurse line and to-do lists
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory equipment and instruments
  • Maintain medication supplies and discard expired items
  • Maintain infection control and ensure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked
  • Order, sort, restock, and inventory supplies
  • Document medical instructions and wound care information for patients
  • Administer anesthesia and injections for procedures
  • Ensure timely response to phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance
Requirements
  • Ability to triage patient problems and prioritize tasks
  • Familiarity with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Blood Borne Pathogen Standards
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments
  • Experience administering injections and providing patient care
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes
  • Knowledge of office financial policies and procedures
  • Basic computer skills and experience with EMR systems
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, patients, and visitors
  • Ability to travel to satellite offices as needed
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or bachelor's degree in pre-med or pre-physician's assistant track
  • CPR certification
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience
  • Previous experience in dermatology
Physical Requirements
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing
  • Use of hands and fingers
  • Talking and listening in person and on the phone
  • Handling of materials such as paper and supplies
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects
