Position Summary
The Plant Project Engineer II plays a crucial role in our manufacturing operations, tasked with the implementation, leadership, and management of intricate engineering projects. The ideal candidate is a lifelong learner and collaborator with a robust understanding of manufacturing processes and Lean principles, coupled with exceptional problem-solving skills. With a strong focus on safety and efficiency, the Plant Project Engineer II drives continuous improvement within the plant while promoting innovation and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management & Budget Oversight (25%): Direct comprehensive project cycles, ensuring timely completion within established budgets, supported by clear planning, scheduling, and optimal resource allocation.
- Engineering Expertise & Compliance (20%): Supervise the design, installation, and commissioning of new equipment and modifications to existing machinery, ensuring compliance with established standards and regulations.
- Process Improvement & Efficiency (20%): Utilize Lean principles to identify and resolve operational bottlenecks, leading initiatives for continuous improvement, enhanced safety, and product quality.
- Cross-functional Collaboration & Support (20%): Work alongside various departments, providing technical guidance and fostering a cohesive operational environment through shared knowledge.
- Industry Awareness & Integration (15%): Remain informed on industry trends and advancements, incorporating this knowledge into ongoing and future projects to maintain Southwire's leadership in wire and cable manufacturing.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Experience: 4+ years in a manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- PMP Certification
- Proficiency in project management and engineering software, including 2D AutoCAD and 3D modeling tools.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and Lean principles.
- Proven ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
