Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Radiologic Technician to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a Diagnostic Radiologic Technician, you will be responsible for performing and coordinating diagnostic radiology exams and fluoroscopic x-ray procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and coordinate diagnostic radiology exams and fluoroscopic x-ray procedures
  • Coordinate workflow, determine priority of examinations, and ensure workload completion
  • Perform a variety of radiographic examinations, including routine, difficult, and complex studies
  • Receives patients, explains procedures, positions patients, selects and sets technical factors, and makes exposures necessary for the requested procedure
  • Correlate clinical history, pertinent clinical data, and other ancillary diagnostic examinations to obtain radiographic images of optimal value
  • Assist radiologists in fluoroscopic examinations, prepare and administer intravenous, oral, and/or rectal contrast media
  • Maintain records of patients examined and studies performed in the VISTA hospital information system and CPRS
  • Evaluate the nature of critical and emergency procedures and rearrange patient priorities to accommodate these more urgent requirements
Requirements
  • Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R)
  • Ability to check system for operation and assess acceptable performance based on established guidelines
  • Knowledge of calibration parameters and the ability to make adjustments as needed
  • Knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results
  • Ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist informed
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, patients, staff, family, visitors, and volunteers
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizing unusual images, and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest
Preferred Experience
  • 2 or more years of Radiographer experience ARRT
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 44 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods and walk for short distances
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and twist to perform tasks
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to perform tasks
  • Ability to see and hear with or without correction
Working Conditions
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Work in a clinical setting with exposure to radiation and other hazardous materials
  • Work in a team environment with frequent communication with colleagues and supervisors
