Job Summary:

Aisobservers is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Marine Observer to join our team. As an IFS Observer, you will play a critical role in collecting and recording data and biological samples for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) aboard commercial fishing vessels targeting Atlantic Sea Scallops.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect and record data on fish catch, discard, and incidental takes such as marine mammals, seabirds, and marine turtles.
  • Work on the decks of vessels ranging from 40 to 100 feet and on trips ranging from 7 to 14 days.

  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with other observers and crew members to ensure accurate and reliable data collection.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology or Biology with 30 credits of biology coursework, 6 credits of marine science, and a math class.
  • At least one year of commitment to the program.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work in rough seas.
