Job Summary:
Aisobservers is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Marine Observer to join our team. As an IFS Observer, you will play a critical role in collecting and recording data and biological samples for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) aboard commercial fishing vessels targeting Atlantic Sea Scallops.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and record data on fish catch, discard, and incidental takes such as marine mammals, seabirds, and marine turtles.
- Work on the decks of vessels ranging from 40 to 100 feet and on trips ranging from 7 to 14 days.
- Collect and record data on fish catch, discard, and incidental takes.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with other observers and crew members to ensure accurate and reliable data collection.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology or Biology with 30 credits of biology coursework, 6 credits of marine science, and a math class.
- At least one year of commitment to the program.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in rough seas.
