Service Manager Job Description

Peterson Cat is seeking a highly skilled Service Manager to lead our service department at our Hillsboro, OR location. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for directing all service department activities, including repairs, maintenance, and other activities that ensure excellent service to customers and other departments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Profit Center Management: Develop and monitor budgets, control costs, and reduce expenses while contributing to cost improvement ideas.
  • Customer Relations: Maintain good customer relationships, resolve problems, and enhance relations by assisting with warranty claims as needed.
  • Work Order Management: Oversee the work order closing process, review work orders for accuracy and completeness, and ensure the appropriateness of parts and labor.
  • Marketing and Sales: Supplement other marketing efforts, stimulate the use of company service capabilities, and provide quotes where possible.
  • Human Resources: Interview, hire, coordinate store orientation and training, discipline, and conduct performance and salary reviews of service employees.
  • Safety and Compliance: Conduct safety meetings, accident investigations, and train department personnel on safe work procedures, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Office Management: Supervise assigned office staff, oversee clerical functions, and maintain files and records.
  • Training and Development: Provide on-the-job technical training to department technicians and schedule formal training activities.

A successful candidate will have an Associate's Degree in Diesel Technology from a fully accredited college or vocational/technical school and a minimum of six to ten years of directly related experience in truck/tractor/heavy equipment service. A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is also required.
