Lead Direct Support Professional

The Lead Direct Support Professional-Behavioral Specialist assists clients with daily living activities, personal care, and program implementation. This role is responsible for the daily well-being and safety of clients, ensuring adequate supervision. The Lead DSP also assists with household maintenance and housekeeping, and is responsible for various tasks to support the home.
Key Responsibilities- Assist clients with daily cares, medical needs, and supports, ADLs, and mental health supports.
- Assist individuals with a daily routine, providing opportunities for choice and presenting creative options as needed.
- Plan and implement recreation, leisure, and community activities.
- Drive to/from and accompany clients at appointments and community activities using a company vehicle during all hours of operation.
- Assist individuals supported in establishing and maintaining community relationships and facilitating friendships.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the person as a unique individual and implement programs in accordance with the Coordinated Service and Support Plan (CSSP), Coordinated Service and Support Plan Addendum (CSSP-A), and Individual Abuse Prevention Plan.
- Provide person-centered services demonstrated through practice, action, and language.
- Maintain a working knowledge of person(s) history, skills, areas of vulnerabilities, habilitation plans, and emergency procedures.
- Participate in the support team process; assist with developing, and implementing goals.
- Maintain and perform proper administration and documentation of all prescribed medication, treatments, diets, and/or exams, or as otherwise directed by the CSSP and CSSP-A.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA and MORA policies and procedures.
- Prepare meals following planned menu for clients in the home and complete weekly food ordering as needed and/or scheduled.
- Assist with daily housekeeping and household maintenance.
- Complete house quality improvement assessments and address identified issues as needed.
- Ensure adequate supervision of clients, including remaining on shift until a replacement employee arrives.
- Work harmoniously with and show respect to all internal and external individuals.
- Communicate effectively with others at work verbally and in writing, using the primary spoken language of clients in the home.
- Complete all mandatory training either determined by MORA or 245D regulations.
- Read and follow company policies and procedures.
- Remain awake at all times unless working an assigned sleeping shift.
- Document program data and daily log information accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Collaborate with the team to complete other duties as assigned or as needed.
- Responsible for training new staff on client Mental Health Outcomes, positive support strategies, behavior programming, and information specific to client mental health diagnoses.
- Work with Program Supervisor and Positive Supports Manager on creation and updates to Mental Health Outcomes.
- Complete training on specific mental health diagnoses for clients supported.
- Work with Program Coordinator to ensure staff are logging data on behavioral and mental health programming.
Flex hours are to be used based on client needs, including but not limited to client annual meetings, medical appointments, and day program closures. Flex time is also used to provide oversight and management of administrative tasks within the home, including but not limited to assisting with training, house schedules as needed, onboarding employees, evaluation of employee's performance and care for clients, house audits, licensing, and other pertinent matters within the home. Flex hours are to be used on-site. All off-site flex hour usage must be business-related and approved by a supervisor.
Requirements- Must pass Department of Human Services background check and maintain qualified status.
- Must not be excluded from working in government health programs by the Office of Inspector General.
- Must be able to successfully complete company's basic job skills assessment.
- If using own vehicle for company business, must have a current valid driver's license and must have insurance as required by state law.
- Successful completion of Medication Administration class- regularly passes medications using correct procedure without error.
